New York native Cliffe Knechtle, Senior Pastor and apologist of Grace Community Church, New Canaan, was born on May 20, 1954, to father Emilio Knechtle and mother Ann Johnston Knechtle.
His father, Emilio Knechtle, born May 17, 1922, was raised in a Roman Catholic family in Zurich, Switzerland.
Emilio was a world evangelist who co-chaired a Billy Graham crusade in New York in 1960 and was a successful fundraiser, collecting a million dollars for evangelistic efforts in New York.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Emilio conducted several evangelistic series in the German-speaking countries of Europe, thus reviving public evangelistic outreach in that region.
He passed away on March 16, 2006, at 83 in New Haven. However, his legacy lives on through cassette tapes, written Bible studies, and books like Eden to Eden and Adam to Adam.
Ann, Cliffe’s mother, graduated from Columbia University and worked as a nurse. Emilio and Ann were married for 56 years and had six children: Cliffe, Stuart, John, Heidi, Grace, and David.
